Staying Safe
Last updated: 2026-10-23
TextSupport is a service of Agor AI. The legal business name of Agor AI is SANSPNASH. You text us a tech problem, and an AI helps you fix it one step at a time.
TextSupport is for people 13 and older in the United States. Teens under 18 need a parent's or guardian's OK.
Teens. We give teens the same tech help, with extra rules: we don't help with anything adults-only, we never help anyone get around a parent's controls on a device, and for purchases or account changes we suggest asking a parent first. If someone tells us they are under 13, we stop and delete their messages. TextSupport is built on Anthropic's Claude, and we follow Anthropic's guidelines for services used by minors.
Scammers love to pretend they are "tech support." So we built this line to be the opposite of a scam. This page tells you what we promise, how to spot a fake, and what to do if something already went wrong.
Our 7 promises
Before the line answers anyone, we build checks into our system to enforce these promises, and we test them.
- We never ask for passwords, PINs, security codes, card numbers or Social Security numbers. By "security codes" we mean the one-time codes that companies text or email you to sign in. If you send one of these by mistake, our system tries to spot it. If it does, we remove it before our AI reads it or we save it, and we tell you. We cannot catch every one, and that includes things shown in photos. So please do not send them. Our text-message company, Twilio, keeps its own copy of each text and photo for up to 48 hours. Then we have it deleted. The one exception: if you or your family bought a gift code on textsupport.org, you text that code to us to add credit. A gift code is not a security code.
- We never ask you to install remote-access apps. We never ask you to let anyone "connect to" your phone or computer.
- We never tell you to call a number we have not checked. We only give phone numbers from our checked list of official company, government and nonprofit contacts (like AARP's Fraud Watch Helpline or Apple Support). We may also tell you to call 911 or 988, or to use the number printed on your own card or bill.
- We only send web links to textsupport.org and to official sites from our checked list. Links to textsupport.org are there to add credit or to read our terms. Sometimes we name an official government or company site, like ReportFraud.ftc.gov or IC3.gov, so you can report a scam. We never send any other link.
- We never text you first. Every text we send is a reply to a text you sent us. Sometimes a reply comes a few minutes late, if our system is slow. Notices about a payment come by email, or in our reply to your next text. We never send ads or marketing texts.
- We never ask for gift cards, wire transfers or crypto. You only pay us by starting on textsupport.org. Payment links always start with textsupport.org and take you to Stripe, our card processor. The card page may show the address checkout.stripe.com. That is normal. If you turned on auto top-up, we also charge your saved card when your credit runs low (see below).
- We always tell you we are an AI. The first text in every conversation says so, and if you ask, it will always tell you. Our replies are written by Claude, an AI from Anthropic that we use, or they are pre-written safety messages. TextSupport is run by Agor AI, not by Anthropic. No person is on the line. But to keep the service safe, we may review some saved conversations, with private details removed. See our Privacy Policy at textsupport.org/privacy.
If anyone who says they are "TextSupport" breaks one of these promises, stop and do not reply. If you ever see a text from our real number break one, email support@textsupport.org and we will fix it.
How to spot a tech-support scam
Here are the signs to watch for.
- Real pop-ups never ask you to call a number. If a box on your screen says your computer has a virus and gives you a number to call, it is fake. Do not call. Close the browser. If it will not close, turn the device off and on again.
- Real tech companies do not call you about a virus. Microsoft, Apple and Google will not call or text you out of the blue to say your device has a virus or is hacked.
- Your bank may send real fraud alerts. But a real bank will never ask for your password or a security code, and will never ask you to move money. If you are not sure, hang up. Call the number on the back of your card.
- Never pay with gift cards, wire transfers or crypto. No real company asks for these. A crypto ATM or "Bitcoin machine" is a big warning sign.
- Never let a stranger into your device. Do not install an app because someone on the phone told you to. Do not read a security code out loud to them.
- Never move money to a "safe account." Your bank will never ask you to do this.
- Watch for rush and fear. Scammers say things like "act now" or "your account will be closed today." Slow down. A real problem can wait for you to check.
- Be careful with search results. Fake support numbers sometimes show up in ads at the top of a search. Use the number on the company's own website, on your bill, or on the back of your card.
If you are not sure, text us and tell us what you see (see "Texting us" below). Our scam emergency steps are free for everyone, once every 24 hours per number. If your free follow-ups are used up and you have no credit, you still get a short free reminder of them. If you then want help fixing your device, our normal price per text applies. See textsupport.org/pricing.
If you think you have been scammed
Do these steps now. Do not feel ashamed. This happens to smart, careful people every day.
- Stop and hang up. Do not keep talking. Do not pay anything.
- Disconnect from the internet. Turn off Wi-Fi, or unplug the internet cable. If someone has control of your computer, turn it off.
- Call your bank. Use the number on the back of your card, not a number someone gave you. Tell them what happened. Ask them to stop any payments.
- Call the AARP Fraud Watch Helpline at 877-908-3360. It is open Monday to Friday, 8am to 8pm Eastern. It is free, and you do not need to be an AARP member. Trained people will help you with next steps.
- Report it. Go to ReportFraud.ftc.gov and to IC3.gov (run by the FBI). Your report helps stop the scammers.
- Freeze your credit. A freeze stops anyone from opening new accounts in your name. It is free. Contact each of the three credit bureaus: Equifax, Experian and TransUnion.
- Change your passwords. Do this from a different device that the scammer never touched. Start with email and banking.
- If you let someone into your computer, have it checked before you use it for banking again. You can text us, and we will walk you through what to do next (see "Texting us" below).
If someone is in danger
- Call 911 if someone is hurt or in danger right now.
- Call or text 988 if you or someone you know is in crisis or thinking about suicide. 988 is free and open 24 hours a day.
TextSupport is not an emergency service. We are an AI and cannot send help.
How to check that a text really came from us
- It comes from our number: 1-888-914-8398. This is our only number. You can check it on textsupport.org.
- You texted us first. Every text we send is a reply to you. If you get a text from "TextSupport" that you did not ask for, it is not us.
- Links go only to textsupport.org or to official sites. A payment link from us looks like this: textsupport.org/p/ followed by a string of letters and numbers. It then takes you to Stripe, our card processor, to pay. Check the spelling closely. Fakes may use names that look almost the same, like "textsupport-help" or "text-support." We also own textsupport.help and textsupport.pro. They only forward you to textsupport.org, and we never send them by text.
- It never asks for a password, PIN, security code or card number. You only type card details on the payment page you reach from our link, never in a text.
- It never asks you to call a number you have not heard of, or to install an app to let someone in.
- Our first text in every conversation says it is an AI. If you ask, it will always say so.
Still not sure? Do not reply to the text. Start a new text to 1-888-914-8398 yourself, or email us at support@textsupport.org. Email costs nothing.
Auto top-up
Auto top-up is off unless you checked the box for it when you added credit. If it is on, here is what happens. When your credit runs low, we add the amount of credit you picked and charge your saved card for it, plus the 3% service fee and the card fee (for example, $10.92 for $10 of credit). We email you a receipt each time. Auto top-up adds at most $100 of credit in a calendar month; the fees are on top and do not count toward that limit.
To turn it off any time:
- text AUTO OFF to 1-888-914-8398, or
- turn it off with the link in your auto top-up confirmation email, or
- email support@textsupport.org.
If you see a charge you do not expect, email us. Full details are in our Terms at textsupport.org/terms.
What it costs
- Once you have bought at least $10 of credit in total (paid and not refunded), your first problem is free, for up to 10 texts. Internet phone numbers (VoIP) and some other line types do not get a free first problem; mobile and landline numbers do.
- Each other text uses credit equal to our cost, plus a share for our fixed costs and free scam and crisis help (12% now), plus 13%. We estimate that is about 8 to 10 cents a text.
- You pay ahead with a card, starting on textsupport.org. You can add any amount from $5 to $100, in steps of $5. You get the full amount as credit. On top, you pay a 3% service fee and the card fee. Sales tax is $0.00 (California does not tax this service), and we show it as its own line anyway. For example, $10 of credit costs $10.92. The page and your receipt show all four lines: credit, service fee, card fee and sales tax.
- Credit never expires. You can get your unused credit back. Text REFUND or email us. The service fee and card fee are not refunded, and if our card processor ever charges a fee to send a refund, it comes out of the refund (there is none today).
- Our scam emergency steps (at most once every 24 hours per number) and our crisis contacts are free for everyone. Follow-up replies about a scam are free up to 3 every 30 days, or 10 every 30 days once you have bought $10 of credit; after that they cost the normal price. A scam reply never has a payment link in it. If you have no credit left for follow-ups, you get a short free reminder of the safety steps (at most once every 24 hours), never silence.
